I watched some of the Miss USA pageant last night and, as I looked at these “role models” of young women I felt saddened. I’ve never seen so many super-tall anorexic women put on display in all my life. As a father of girls, I can’t imagine the image these women give to them. It truly bothered me…so much so that I’m taking up precious blog space with this rant. Really? My daughters will have to be anorexic to be considered beautiful in our society? Sad!
To my female readers, you’re beautiful! Resist what the advertisers are telling you about your body image. Yes, you need to take care of yourself but you do not need to see your ribcage and appear emaciated like the Miss USA women appeared to be. Be healthy. Be fit. Exercise. But by all means feel good about you and don’t bow to culture’s standards.
If you or someone you know are battling with an eating disorder, here’s a link that could start you on a journey towards a healthier you.
Blessings!
